About the Team
The Data Product team operates within the Chief Data Office (CDO), which is part of T. Rowe Price’s Chief Operating Office (COO). This team leads the firm’s data product strategy, shaping and implementing a unified approach to data products across the organization. Their responsibilities include the development, delivery, and ongoing management of critical data products that underpin T. Rowe Price’s business operations. As a central component of the company’s data strategy, the Data Product team partners closely with business users and data consumers to drive data innovation and excellence across the enterprise.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Data Product Business Analyst to join our team and play a key role in advancing enterprise data product initiatives that support our firm-wide data strategy. This position will focus on Index/Benchmark and Security Analytics reference datasets.
As a Data Product Business Analyst, you will analyze complex data, collaborate to design solutions, communicate insights, and support the data product roadmap. The ideal candidate thrives in cross-functional environments, enjoys problem solving, and is passionate about detailed data analysis and understanding the underlying business context.
Success in this role requires strong investment management data expertise, analytical and documentation skills, and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Responsibilities
- Data Analysis: Analyze and document index/benchmark data product requirements for functions such as Front Office Investments, Trading, Counterparty Risk, and Investment Compliance. Identify patterns, inconsistencies, and clarify complex requirements.
- Solution Development: Contribute to the design and development of foundational data products within the Data Product Framework, working alongside data consumers and technical partners, as well as support and governance teams.
- Requirements Management: Collect, document, and communicate requirements, partnering with the Data Product Owner to prioritize and align initiatives with business objectives and technical feasibility. Ensure documentation is comprehensive and facilitates effective sign-off.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders across business and technology, driving data product development from ideation to launch and maintenance. Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., Market Data Services) to verify index data licensing compliance.
- User Experience Advocacy: Promote user-centered design to ensure data products meet user needs and foster adoption.
- Risk Management: Identify risks and dependencies, develop mitigation plans, and proactively resolve issues to enable successful delivery of data products.
- Vendor Communication: Liaise with external vendors to clearly articulate requirements and solutions.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent education and experience.
- 2+ years of relevant experience, ideally within Asset Management or a related sector.
- Proven ability to take ownership of issues and drive solutions.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively within global teams.
- Strong grasp of data management concepts, such as governance, operations, modeling, and architecture.
- Experience with modern data management and governance tools (e.g., data modeling, metadata management, data catalog/marketplace).
- Background in Agile, cross-functional team environments.
- Analytical mindset with strong data-driven decision-making skills.
- Track record of delivering long-term business value.
Preferred:
- Direct experience implementing index/benchmark data solutions (e.g., Rimes, Bloomberg PolarLake, S&P EDM, LSEG/Refinitiv, Factset).
- Experience working with index/benchmark service providers (e.g., FTSE, Bloomberg, MSCI, S&P).
- Familiarity with Bloomberg PORT, Data License (Bulk/BO files, Per security), B-PIPE, API.
- Familiarity with a variety of asset classes (Equities, Fixed Income, Municipals, Bank Loans, Money Market, Mortgages, FX, Derivatives).
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in SQL.
- Experience with cloud-based data processing and database technologies.
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming (Python, R) and programmatic prototyping.
- Advanced expertise in Excel.
