Role Summary

This Principal Architect will play an integral role in determining, articulating, and advocating the group’s architecture principles and value propositions to technology and business partners.  The role will be accountable for realizing the true value of technology infrastructure and operations solutions for the firm. 

The Principal Architect will own the target state architecture, work with stakeholders across the organization to understand the technology strategy and translate into a target state vision.  A passionate advocate for this vision, the selected candidate will be a champion across all areas of the firm. The role requires organizational awareness and will apply communication, influencing, and governance skills to ensure organization initiatives deliver business value and move us toward the effective operational target state. Working closely with Technology and Business partners the role will understand and influence changes needed to execute on a future view of technology.   

This key role will represent Technology Infrastructure and Operations in the Architecture Council. This person is passionate about technology and actively remains current with industry and technology trends.  He or she will use broad industry knowledge to help craft and maintain the firm’s policies and standards, ensuring that the firm’s controls framework stays relevant in an ever-evolving technology landscape.   

Responsibilities

  • Requires specialized knowledge and deep expertise in integrating related disciplinary knowledge     

  • Works with senior technology and Enterprise Architecture leadership to enable infrastructure modernization. Key focus areas include enhancing the SRE, AI Ops/No Ops functions, the consolidation of global data centers, cloud awareness, and an automation centric approach.   In addition, continuing the migration to the cloud and optimization of computer environments.

  • Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations     

  • Acts as advisor to management and key external stakeholders on broad ranging projects    

  • Builds and drive the Target State architecture for Technology Infrastructure and Operations 

  • Ensures that Architects follow all aspects of the Enterprise Architecture process from initiation to closure with a strong focus on impacts to ongoing operations

  • Partners with Technical Engineering to design and delivers solutions that strength the operational architecture and infrastructure 

  • Mentors and support Senior Architects in project engagements 

  • Ensures that solution delivery follows the firm's Policies and Standards 

  • Represents the organization’s architecture and strategy at internal and external forums 

  • Stays abreast of industry and technology trends; identifies new technologies that might be advantageous 

  • Operates as a hands-on architecture practitioner, engaging with teams and as an individual architect 

  • Decomposes complex problems into discrete work units 

  • Makes sound and objective decisions, sometimes with limited facts or resources 

  • Identifies and evaluates options and selecting the most effective solution 

  • Crafts and validates technology standards, standard methodologies, and technical biases 

  • Holds associates and teams accountable for adhering to practices and policies 

Technical and Business knowledge 

  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of Technology Infrastructure and Operations, with expertise in networks, on-premises infrastructure technology and operations, and technology lifecycle management 

  • Solid knowledge of SDLC practices 

  • Articulates broader business concerns and/or regulatory landscape, including key risks and controls (e.g., GDPR, MIFID, SOX) 

  • Skilled at making decisions that are cognizant of the firm’s broader business strategy 

  • Sets the expectations for technology modernization practices  

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) and 10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in a senior Architecture role. 

  • Proven experience leading infrastructure architecture projects in large, complex environments. 

  • Experience with a variety of infrastructure technologies (e.g., networks, servers, storage, virtualization, cloud services). 

  • Proficiency in a multi-cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and related services. 

  • Authority in an Infrastructure architecture discipline or domain

  • Track record of technology innovation and experience leading technology evaluation within your company and with other industry leaders 

 

Preferred:

  • Experience working within the financial services industry, ideally within an investment management organization or another large, highly regulated organization preferred

  • Technical and/or Architecture Certifications preferred

FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.

This role is eligible for hybrid work, with up to three days per week from home.
